Clubs offer a unique set of challenges for lighting control.   They are often built with a very minimal amount of space dedicated to the control booth for lighting, yet they may have extremely intricate and complex rigs, with many different modes and ways of integrating with other systems packed into their usage scenarios

ChamSys is a leader in this market because their consoles are fast (keeping up with the rhythms on the dance floor, handling data intensive systems, and so forth) compact, and flexible. The flexibility means that an operator can go from manual triggering and playing the console like an instrument, to using sound inputs, MIDI, or tapping a tempo into the console, and have a great light show whichever way they like to get there. 

If there isn’t a dedicated lighting operator, but visiting ones or DJs should have access to some simplified control surface, then MagicQ’s special “Execute Window” provides a simple interface for them to use. Anything you can record or operate on the console, including faders and encoders can be placed on a touch screen and then directed from an iPad or Android tablet.

With the surge in popularity for Electronic Dance Music, and the wave of huge EDM festivals that has swept over the world, comes opportunities for bigger rigs which have a more temporary anchoring to the spaces where they occur. These festivals have the need, and typically the room,  for the medium-sized and larger versions of ChamSys MagicQ consoles, like the MQ80, and MQ500 Stadium. 

Often because of the sheer size of the rig or the complexity of media playback these systems will include fader wings.  The best part is that when the festival is over the designer/programmer can take their show file with them and know that the next time they go out again, they can start with that file even though a different MagicQ console is provided. The compatibility between different models and software versions saves them from reentering all that data.
